A recent viral video shows what appears to be a dramatic rescue of one dog by another. In the clip, two dogs play fetch in a river. One dog makes a catch, only to be pulled down into turbulent rapids. As he floats by, the other dog grabs the stick and pulls the black lab to safety.
The video uses dramatic slow motion effects to heighten the moment. As it made the rounds, people were stunned, amazed, and shocked that the person filming did nothing to help save the dog.
The amazing rescue
There’s another side to the story, however. It turns out that what looks like dangerous, roiling water is really just a little slide into a calm pool. The swimming area is not, in fact, dangerous, and the dogs were having a great time.

Phew. Now we can enjoy the rescue video guilt-free! After all, it is a pretty impressive sight.
